LTA stopping the Tennismark club accreditation scheme

September 11, 2018

We have been advised that from 1 October 2018, the LTA will cease to run the Tennismark club accreditation scheme. BQTC was a Tennismark accredited venue and as such we had all the necessary policies and processes in place to meet the requirements of Tennismark.

The LTA have explained in further details why they are ceasing Tennismark as follows:

The purpose of Tennismark was to recognise and promote clubs that are safe, friendly and high quality tennis environments. However, the LTA are unable to quality assure all Tennismark venues to ensure that they are fully adhering to the criteria of Tennismark on an annual basis. This subsequently presents a significant reputational risk to the LTA in terms of accrediting and promoting venues that have not been fully assessed, particularly when Tennismark is aimed at reassuring parents and young people that the venue is safe and has all the necessary processes for safeguarding in place.

Unfortunately the majority of tennis venues in this country do not meet the high quality standards that Tennismark required. Therefore to raise the standard of all tennis venues, the LTA have identified the most important aspects of Tennismark and included these in the LTA Minimum Registration Standards that all tennis venues will be required to meet and adhere to going forward.

The LTA believe that by establishing Minimum Registration Standards, we are helping to raise the standard of all tennis venues rather than just the committed few.

Tennismark provided some valuable guidance to clubs to help improve aspects of their operations, however it was a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach that didn't flex to the different needs of tennis venues in this country. We are currently in the process of developing a new online system that provides a far more flexible and extensive support and development tool that can provide enhanced guidance and advice. This system is currently being tested with a number of tennis clubs to ensure it is fit-for-purpose. It is anticipated that this system will be launched in 2019.

Undertaking the Tennismark process will have helped BQTC to be in a far stronger position to achieve the LTA Minimum Registration Standards for the year ahead.
